Komatiq Farm was started in 2008 with the goal of producing high quality wood mushrooms. Our mushrooms are grown directly on hardwood logs, as opposed to substrate, and only outdoors. This results in a relatively short season, somewhere between 5 and 7 months, but produces the best quality mushrooms from both the culinary and medicinal perspective. In 2010, after visiting several farms in Ontario, we inoculated 1000 logs with a variety of strains of Shiitake. Over the past 5 years we have continued with Shiitake cultivation, become involved in wild mushroom harvesting and developed a variety of mushroom products. Since 2012 we have been selling our fresh Shiitake, pickled and teriyaki products, tinctures, vinegars, teas and a selection of fresh and dried mushrooms at farmers' markets and to restaurants.

 

We currently have year-round booths at the Halifax Forum Farmers' Market on Saturdays and the Lunenburg Farmers' Market on Thursdays.
